چکیده

In the literature, discretization methods for solving the Navier-Stokes equation which are written in terms of the velocity and pressure are known as "primitive (or primary) variable formulation" methods (we actually solve for u and P; not for the vorticity, say). It is important to distinguish those which rely on a standard time discretization step, in which velocity and pressure terms evolve simultaneously, and those which are fractional-step projection methods. This last type of projection methods was …rst introduced by Chorin and Temam in 1969, and is characterized by a "fractional-step", followed by an orthogonal projection onto the space of solenoidal vector …elds (that is, incompressible vector …elds). We will see that in both methods, it is often the case that a Poisson equation for the pressure is solved. Key di¤erence: In the standard discretization methods, this will not ensure incompressibility, and an extra boundary condition (really painful) has to be ful…lled. However, in fractional-step projection methods this equation will indeed replace the incompressibility condition, rendering it a signi…cantly more attractive method.

Computational fluid dynamics study and GA modeling approach of the bend angle effect on thermal-hydraulic characteristics in zigzag channels

In the study, the thermal-hydraulic performance of the zigzag channels with circular cross-section was analyzed by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The standard K-Ꜫ turbulent scalable wall functions were used for modeling. The wall temperature was assumed constant 353 K and water was used as the working fluid. The zigzag serpentine channels with bend angles of 5 - 45° were studied for turbul...

Combined application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and design of experiments (DOE) to hydrodynamic simulation of a coal classifier

Combining the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and the design of experiments (DOE) methods, as a mixed approach in modeling was proposed so that to simultaneously benefit from the advantages of both modeling methods. The presented method was validated using a coal hydraulic classifier in an industrial scale. Effects of operating parameters including feed flow rate, solid content and baffle le...

Investigation of stepped planning hull hydrodynamics using computational fluid dynamics and response surface method

The use of step at the bottom of the hull is one of the effective factors in reducing the resistance and increasing the stability of the Planning hull. The presence of step at the bottom of this type of hulls creates a separation in the flow, which reduces the wet surface on the hull, thus reducing the drag on the body, as well as reducing the dynamic trim. In this study, a design space was cre...
